The region boasts 322 days of sunshine each year and is one of the driest and warmest parts of mainland Europe. At approximately the same latitude as North Africa, the area is arid semi desert and provides an ideal climate for year round naturism. The air here is clean and fresh, the ambience is relaxing and in this part of Spain the sun is never far away.
The naturist beach resort at Vera Playa is a popular holiday destination for those who enjoy being naked in the sun. It is an officially recognised naturist zone, which means that total nudity is perfectly acceptable. Whilst at the resort you may be naturist all of the time (if you so choose). The atmosphere is friendly and is suitable for families, couples and single persons.
Our apartment is in the Vera Natura urbanisation located within the official naturist zone at Vera Playa, therefore, you do not need clothes in and around the apartments or for walking to the beach.
The official naturist beach is sandy, the sea is usually calm and is just a 2 minute walk from our apartment.
A few years ago, Vera Playa, or Vera Beach, was just a long stretch of sandy beach backed by scrubland. Now the area has changed beyond recognition; the sandy beach and warm calm Mediterranean Sea remain the same, but the area behind the beach has been developed into privately owned apartment complexes. The atmosphere here is of peace and tranquility throughout the year, except maybe during July and August when the area becomes busiest.
Naturist zone facilities
There is very little commercialisation within the naturist area which mainly consists of privately owned apartments and the beach. There are however a small variety of bars, restaurants and shops. Directly on the beachfront in front of Vera Natura is a bar and restaurant, which is open all day, every day, throughout the year and is mostly fully naturist (clothing required in the main part of the restaurant only).
Bicycles can also be hired in the naturist zone.
A short walk away from the naturist zone is the Vera Water Park, which is open from May to September (clothing required).
The nearest large supermarket is next to the Water Park
The nearby town of Vera (which lies about 9km inland) has several large supermarkets and a Saturday street market selling a wide variety of goods.
Along the coast (about 5km away) there is the fishing port of Garrucha. Here you will find a bigger variety of shops, supermarkets. In Garrucha Friday is market day.
A little further along the coast (about 9km away) is the holiday resort of Mojacar Playa. Lying opposite the beach are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants.
Inland from Mojacar Playa is the mountain top village of Mojacar Pueblo, which dates back over 5000 years. The views from the viewing terrace are absolutely breathtaking.
Further south is the nature reserve of Cabo de Gata which covers over 34,000 hectares. Along this coastline are an abundance of coves and beaches to explore. Nudity is common on many of them.
Just outside the village of Tabernas, is the film set known as "Mini Hollywood", which was used for film epics such as "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". Cowboy shows are held here throughout the summer season.
Overshadowing the provinces capital, Almeria, is the massive ancient fortress the Alcazeba. This dates back over 1000 years and was used as the regions main observation point looking over the Mediterranean Sea.
The whole region is full of history, culture, nature and an amazing landscape.
